Introduction to Fly Fishing

BLAIR COUNTY GAME FISH and FORESTRY ASSOC. will be hosting an” INTRODUCTION to FLY FISHING EVENT”  on Saturday, March 25, 2023.

You do not have to be a member to sign-up.

The purpose of this event will provide attendees with basic information on preparing, rigging, casting and catching trout with a fly rod. This is a beginners event for those who have a fly rod, but need some help to fish effectively and catch trout.

We plan to provide individual or small group instruction on the following topics:

  •  Casting with a fly rod.
  • Selecting leaders and rigging flies, weight, and strike indicators.
  • Tying a good knot. We will show everyone the knot use to connect fly to leader.
  • Basic fly selection for catching trout in spring at Blair Game pond and local streams.
  • Handling and releasing trout.
  • Answer any questions a beginner fly fisher might ask.

NOON  till  3 PM. Attendees can drop in anytime.

Attendees will enjoy the chance to fish the Blair Game Trout pond. All attendees must be properly licensed in accordance with PFBC regulations, and abide by the Blair Game pond fishing regulations . Attendees should bring their own fly rod and fly box. Register Now

Master fly tyer and fly fisherman proprietor of AQUATIC IMITATIONS Tackle Shop in Frankstown, will be on hand to provide casting instruction and insight on aquatic insects and flies to use in the spring. Creg will have fly rods on hand ready to use if an angler does not yet have one.
